The Woodside model
was commissioned from the Merseyside MRS by the Wirral
Museum, where it held pride of place
from
its completion in 2001 to the
closure of the Wirral Museum last year. It
is a static model of the Woodside terminus of the LNWR/GWR joint railway and the
adjacent ferry terminal to Liverpool and dry dock as they were in 1934. It was
researched and built over a ten
year period by a
team from the Merseyside Model Railway Society and was the subject of articles
in British Railway Backtrack and Railway Modeller in 2001.
Although
it is not currently available for viewing, the MMRS and the Council are making
sure that it is in good condition and will be available again for viewing at
some future, but as yet unknown, date.
